Spooners Hunt; Brat Tor

Artist David Dent: "About 6 weeks ago I was out walking with my mate Jon James with his dogs on Dartmoor. Just behind the Fox and Hounds pub at Lydford. All of a sudden the Hunt turned up and it was quite a sight against the bleak landscape. Jon said he'd walked the dogs hundreds of times there before never seen a horse then suddenly I come and the Hunt turn up ! Lucky I guess. Anyway I wanted to paint the scene as the hunting pink against the thin muted colour of the landscape and the grey sky begged it. The sky I handled quite feverishly as I wanted to capture the effect of the swirling wind which cut through us, and distant falling cloudburst. On the top in the distance is Brat tor, which has Widgery’s cross on it.Erected in 1887 to commemorate the golden jubilee of Queen Victoria by William Widgery an artist. Then I kept the pallette quite limited colour wise to emphasis the bleak beauty."Available as a limited high quality giclee canvas with original work added at £245 size 36x24"
